Program Description

The program has operated since 2003 and is for families with young children and new mothers. Families are from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Last year it worked with just over 300 families and their children. It employs part time bilingual workers, Arabic, Pacific Islander and Vietnamese, who collectively speak 7 languages spoken in our local community other than English. The program also supports numberous other services when the bilingual skills of our staff are required.

Regular activites include a weekly playgroup, parenting programs, culturally specific support groups and general family support. The service targets isolated and newly arrived families in the suburbs of Lakemba, Wiley Park and Punchbowl.

Program aims include: the provision of appropriate early intervention for young children; the support of local families with young children; the promotion of community harmony and; the connection of families to the local community and services.
